“FUN PARK – Fun starts here”
Making Global Education Fun
When we set out to create the Fun Park app, our primary goal was to make learning about global education fun and exciting! We quickly realized that the best way to catch the attention of young people was to create a game-based mobile application, where they would be able to both play and create quiz games, learning about global education in the process.
The Fun Park app is one of the outputs of the “FUN PARK – Fun starts here!” project which aims to encourage youth creativity and innovation through a combination of new IT technologies and youth work expertise, based on global education guidelines.
Active Youth Participation
In our experience, young people learn best when they put new knowledge and skills into practice. Active youth participation was therefore our guiding principle when we organised several 3-day GDE trainings where young people had the opportunity to learn about gender differences, healthy lifestyles, human rights and employability. Afterwards, they were offered the chance to create a quiz about the topic they are most interested in.
By participating in the creation of these quizzes, young people became peer educators, as they indeed wanted to make a quiz that was going to be both entertaining and informative to their friends and peers. They succeeded – and what they created is only a preview of the youth’s potential!
The Fun Park app was designed according to Global Education guidelines. What is then Global education? Simply put, it is a pedagogical approach designed by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe with the goal to create education that opens people’s eyes and minds to the realities of the globalized world. Global education thus seeks to empower people by equipping them with the right skills and knowledge to navigate the complex world of the 21st century, either through formal or non-formal education.
This includes education that seeks to promote human rights, to deconstruct stereotypes, to foster critical awareness of global challenges and generate engagement for sustainable lifestyles. In the end, by creating global citizenship, we can build a better world together; a world of greater justice, equity and human rights for all.
